Paper by FiftyThree is designed to be a digital sketchbook that utilises various intuitive tools to create, capture and store illustrations, ideas and thought processes.
This resource won Apple's App of the year in 2012, and has continued to be a single platform program. Though initially designed for explicit iPad use, Paper has since been adapted and can now also be accessed by iPhones.
Paper is free to download, with in-app purchasing to increase colour palette, pen/brush style, and additional drawing tools as desired/required.
Paper is a fantastic digital tool that encourages students develop creativity, communication, critical thinking, and collaboration skills/knowledge.
The drawing tool has been designed to look and feel like a sketchbook, devoid of buttons. Ideas can be sketched out, images remixed and collaborated on. Tutorials are provided within the App to engage students in intuitive learning interaction with the software. The journal feature is a useful tool for school use where iPads are shared between classes.
Paper by 53 is a valuable ICT reousrce, engaging its users in idea generation through real world problem solving responses, hand sketching of ideas, concepts and connections, along with increasing critical visual thinking skills. Though currently limited by in-app purchases and its single platform use, this resource has enough 'basic' tools to engage students on a daily basis in design and technology.
