Tinkercad
Tinkercad, now part of the 123D family of free apps from Autodesk is a basic browser-based and now app accessible tool used to create and print 3D models.
Tinkercad was acquired by Autodesk in 2013 and has since been updated and redesigned to be freely accessible on all platforms and devices. Tinkercad is an excellent
introduction to computer aided design and modelling, with near intuitive interface, cloud based storage, easy to read text hints and links to the many "how to" videos on
YouTube. The 3D printer interface is one of its most attractive features, being a preferred tool recommended by 3D printing companies in Australia.
This free resource could be introduced across primary and secondary classes, with careful scaffolding and teacher instruction
throughout the class lessons (and also provided within the software) to explore creative/critical thinking and problem solving skills.
This software exceeds expectations for Creating with ICT, not only providing idea generation and realisation digitally, but in its direct connection to 3D printing to generate real life built solutions to challenges and learning area tasks.
