Wix is a free website building tool that provides users with over 500 HTML5-based free templates to select and modify as desired.
One of the many reasons that Wix stands out from rivals like Google sites, is due to the easily customisable templates. The HTML5 templates are creative and diverse, providing an intuitive interface for users to transition between pages, modify and combine images, text and videos with ease. The learning style is visually impressive and interactive, as users learn by design through drag and drop sequencing.
Wix is free to use, with users being provided with templates, 500MB of storage and access to a database of free and pay per item images. This resource is well suited to students from Year 3 and beyond.
Wix can be used to educate students in communication skills and knowledge of: graphic design; target audience; collaboration as students share and exchange information; basic web-building concepts and coding.
One limiting educational element in this resource is that spell check is not provided in the Wix editor. This missing feature could be used as a learning tool to encourage students in critical thinking and analysis, whilst also engaging problem solving skills as they consider a best course for ensuring correct spelling on their website.
