adventures in design and technology

3 children have entered my life since my last blog experience, fundamentally transforming my world, perspective, attitudes and interests.
The attached photo was taking back in 2004 with a Canon Digitalshot A40. My understanding of framing, tone/light source, layout, and balance was negligible, let alone the camera's now 'puny' 2megapixel resolution and light balance capabilities.
Out of the millions of images that sit lost in a 2 TB AirPort Time Capsule, I selected it to use as an example of how technology is an organism of learning by design. This image was bland, colours unbalanced, not even able to see the restaurant or variations of water... yet it was all there, hidden in layers that can now be exposed through variation of levels in exposure, contrast, sepia and other balance techniques.
Technology too, is an ever changing organism of growth, rapidly exchanging, varying, superceding and exploding in potential and ideas. It requires a battle-like attitude of willingness to engage, understand, investigate and be equipped for what will come.
Technology products, softwares, versions, styles are like the wind, ever changing, moving - never static.
Design principles are far more stable, and interact naturally with technology.
Investigating whether something new (product/software) actually adds value, quality, is sustainable, provides interaction for internation diversity, has sharing capabilities, choice and customization help to guide purpose and use both in design and technology.
My journey of intentionally engaging in the pedagogy between these two generally considered separate and yet inseparable fields is just beginning, and I'll be using this interface to communicate, until wix is superceded, replaced or upgraded by something that adds further value to my interests!
